Pontypandy Fire Service is searching for new recruits and you're invited to help Fireman Sam deal with a whole range of new disasters. Based on the BBC TV series, the Fireman Sam CD-ROM sends you off to deal with a fire at a farm. All the animals have lost their voices by breathing in smoke and you have to get them back. To help, you simply click on the sounds they usually make and match them to the correct animals in the farmyard. A lot of the action of this title begins in the fire station. You start the alarm and a fax comes in which tells you about an emergency. On one occasion Norman Price has got his head stuck in some railings. You then start the fire engine and you have to actually drive it along the roads to the scene of the incident by using the on-screen controls. Fireman Sam offers interactive activities and also narrated picture sequences with the words of an episode clearly read out on the screen. Navigating your way around requires a bit of practice before you get the hang of it, but this title successfully provides entertainment while at the same time teaching children aged between 4 and 7 years how to avoid the disasters they have had to deal with. --Justin Hunt
